The One About the Bad Monday

I did not have the greatest Monday morning to begin the week with.

I came to work as usual after I made peace of having to wake up early as always.

Then I saw that someone spilled some brown drink on my white jacket, which I left on my chair. That made me murderous. At least have the courtesy to leave a note and say sorry or something.

And I just discovered something. Christmas and New Year falls on a Saturday!!!!

Noooooooooo!!!!!!!

*shocked speechless*

Damn!

I thought I had something to look forward to. But nooooooo……

Urgh…

My boss was asking me if I wanted to join the team building workshop on Jan 1. I declined politely, or rather I said I’ll confirm at a later date.

But seriously, over my dead body.

There might be a little chance of me going if it’s on a public holiday not on a weekend.

Now that I found out that it’s on a Saturday, it’s pretty much over my dead body. No way!

Not a very good Monday to start the week with since I’m already grumpy and cranky.

Also, there was a slight misunderstanding just now when a colleague thought I was in charge of the asian celebrities page EVERY monday. I almost fell out of my chair.

But with the misunderstand cleared out, I can breathe easy but the Christmas/New Year holidays are still a shock.

I don’t think they will replace public holidays that falls on Saturdays right? Especially in my field.

Sigh.

I need something to cheer me up.

*fingers crossed*

Time for a short one.

I just realized that I’ve messed up many capital cities, after I read this article in the newspaper.

What is the capital cities of Turkey, Brazil, Switzerland, Morocco, South Africa and the US state of Nevada?

If you answered Istanbul, Rio de janeiro, Geneva, Casablanca, Johannesburg and Las Vegas, then we’re in the same boat.

Sadly, those were not the answers.

Let’s look at the correct answers…

Turkey – Ankara
Brazil – Brasilia
Switzerland – Bern
Morocco – Rabat
South Africa – Pretoria (executive), Bloemfontein (judicial), Cape Town (legislative)
Nevada – Carson City

Surprised?

Oh and you’d better know that Australia’s capital is Canberra 🙂

So, if I wasn’t mistaken, the last time around, I mentioned that I have to take over the Asian entertainment page for a week.

And finally, the week is up!

You have no idea how busy I was just to find news and photos for one newspaper page. Well, the finding part was okay. It was the editing.

You have no idea how much corrections needed to be done for the articles found online.

A lot.

For a normal day, normal as in not a day before weekends or a public holiday, I have to start looking and editing the news a day before I need to send it in. Confused?

Let’s say for Wednesday’s publication. I need to start looking for news on Monday, edit and arrange everything before sending it to the layout people on Tuesday morning.

So, what happens when it’s Friday or like today (tomorrow will be a public holiday)?

I have to do twice the work in the same period of time.

That was when I am forced to continue my work at home, however tired I am.

If you know me well, you know that I hate to bring work home and try to finish everything before I go home.

That was how busy I was. Also, for the past week, I did not have time to read newspapers AT ALL. I had to find time to go to the loo.

And now, the week is up!

Yay!

The person originally in charge of it will be back on Thursday so basically today is my last day in charge of the page.

And I tried to squeeze in as much Korean news and photos as I could but somehow it’s always removed or resized by the layout people.

Hopefully tomorrow and the next day will feature the news and photos. *fingers crossed*

Also, I have no idea that some news can be so boring. Yawn yawn…

Still, it feels good to be paid to read/edit entertainment news. Much better than politics 🙂

Btw, I did actually like the feeling of having lots of work. As in, not too much that I can’t handle them but just right to occupy my time.

Did I mention that tomorrow’s a public holiday???

YAY!!!

I’m gonna sleep till noon and go for ice cream later in the day. Whee! ~

Okay… I have about ten minutes for a short update.

Anyway, one of my colleagues, whom I’ve never met before is taking leave starting this Thurs till next Thurs. She was in charge of the Asian Celebrities entertainment page and now I will have to take over for the time being.

Initially, I was delighted. I mean, c’mon, it’s entertainment news.

Then, after some talk with her, apparently it’s not as easy as choosing the news you like and putting photos from the Internet.

The editing involved is very tedious and is a lot of work even though it is only one newspaper page.

Worse of all, I have to complete it before noon everyday!

And on Friday, I will have to prepare for Saturday and Sunday and so on.

Basically, I’m feeling very boggled now. Especially when the person in charge leaves and I have no one to refer to. *scared*

Anyways, have to prepare for Thurs publication on Wednesday so fingers crossed. Wish me luck!

Guess how bored I am?

Bored enough to plot my mood over the week on a graph!

image

This is the ups and downs during normal weeks, where PMS isn’t a factor.

Obviously, ten is the highest where I’ll be ecstatic, probably after I get a new toy (make that 11 or 12 then!) and 0 is the lowest where I’m suicidal very depressed.

And the graph applies only when I am working. Otherwise, I think it might be permanently stuck on an 8.

So from the graph, I feel most down on Mondays and Tuesday. Monday because of the blues after the weekends but reality hasn’t hit hard yet. Tuesday because reality hit and I realise it’s still so far from the weekends.

And obviously every other day will improve from these two. Then it goes down like a rollercoaster again starting from Sunday.

I was feeling really foul yesterday for no particular reasons. Something like a sudden surge of midlife crisis at the age of 24 (technically 23).

Then I got over it with a night of sleep.

Speaking of sleep, I have been having dreams every single night for the past days.

What did I dream of yesterday?

I dreamt that my family and I went for a holiday/stay at a chalet in the mountains where it’s nice and cool (think Mt. Kinabalu) with little fog and mists.

It was all nice and lovely until I discovered that I forgot to bring my phone’s charger and there’s only 20% left.

I called up my parents who haven’t left for the destination yet and I have no idea what happened next as I woke up.

Hmm… What are these dreams trying to tell me? From kidnaps to tornadoes to chalets in the mountains. Hmm…

I had a weird dream last night.

I dreamt that my brother was kidnapped, along with my phone (strange?) and some other valuables.

I remembered that I was driving and looking frantically everywhere. I think it was racing against time thing.

Then, I received a call from someone, who claimed to be my brother’s classmate/schoolmate, who felt guilty because his family kidnapped my brother and took our valuables. He left his first name.

But I had no way of identifying him. So I called my brother’s friends from school but no one picked up their phones at all.

So, I thought of the school yearbook. It usually contains our particulars anyway.

I looked high and low and yet I still can’t find a copy.

I drove to my friend’s house (shophouse) in a place that looks and feel like Padungan but in reality, she lives far from there.

But anyway, I eventually found a copy of the yearbook but of all years, this particular year’s publication did not publish any addresses or phone numbers of the students! Gah!

And I think this was when my alarm woke me up. But anyway, it seemed so much more dramatic and longer in the dream. I can’t express it well in writings and now it sounds like a comedy. Oh well…

Anyway, the reason I’m blogging now is that I have nothing to do. It’s strange.

In the recent week/days, I usually had to translate asian entertainment news in the morning. But there’s nothing in my folder (the company computers are all linked in a network). So I feel strange and disconcerted. Had to check the folder every few minutes. Just in case.

*checks* nothing.

Hmm…

I finished the Korean drama “My girlfriend is a Gumiho”. It’s pretty interesting. Only 16 episodes so it is not too much of a drag. It is very different from the usual sob fest or love-to-death drama. Well, it is a little but the fact that the girl is a Gumiho (nine-tailed fox) changes things a lot. And it has lovely soundtracks.

La la la..

Update: I was happy that I had nothing to do this morning. Then all the work came rushing to me in the afternoon! Gah!

But I’m pretty much done. Just need to proofread it now. Not something I like to do.

Another photo of lovely autumn from Pennsylvania, the home of awesome ice cream. Sigh
